Crying

So the nhs website says when your lo has been crying and screaming is persistent or concerned seek medical help, I know I sound bit stupid (that’s why I’m incognito) but how long until you seek help.

Is it non stop crying? Is there ever a break in crying? Is it hours on end? Is it the whole time they're awake?

Sometimes non stop crying, I’ve had it where my lo would be crying and screaming for 2 hours where there would little breaks of him sleeping

I would seek help, but not from a Dr because they will usually just say it is colic (which is not actually a thing). What are the other symptoms they are displaying?

I think it depends on the cry. Mine would cry for hours and hours but he had colic so it was like 4pm onwards. During the day he was mainly fine. But I could just tell the cry was an okay one, rather than him being in proper distress or pain

@sarah do you know that colic is simply 'baby cries for a few hours a day, a few times a week and we don't know why yet'. Colic is not actually a condition, despite what baby products would make you believe. There is always a reason for a baby crying, it is their way of communicating with you

Depends on how old your baby is? My boy used to cry for hours at a time until he was about 14 weeks and there was nothing anyone could do for him. It’s hard to listen to especially when you feel like nothing you’re doing is helping

It could be PURPLE crying or witching hours.

We think it’s do with his teething, he’s 5 months now

If it's teething, then you need to trying and eliviate the pain. Teething toys, cold facecloth, massage the gum if they will let you, if it is causing them lots of pain and they are crying for a long time then you can offer calpol. Teething can be a really tough time

We are doing that, my question I’ve asked is how long with crying do you wait before you get help

Honestly, if it is teething, I have never seeked medical help (I'm a nanny with 15 years experience). It is just a case of managing the pain as best as you can. Teetha granules are good. I even used them with my wisdom teeth when I was in agony. Seeking medical help won't really help with teething because it is a natural process and they will just say to manage the pain and alternate Calpol and nurofen if needed. In terms of general crying, there is no standard answer because it will depend on the symptoms. Sometimes it might only be an hour
