I didn’t have a doula but it was suggested to me to think about it by my midwife after a few teary eyed appointments that saw my anxiety fly through the roof. I didn’t get one mostly because I knew my partner was the best option for me as support AND I knew my anxiety with more people around was going to be even worse.. all that to say, when our birth plans went out the window and I needed to go to the hospital for an eventual csection I kinda wish I would of had one. She could of stayed with me when I was being prepped in the OR and maybe helped me from having a full panic attack, or on the flip side, she could of stayed with my partner who was left out in the hall while I was being prepped and kept him from having his own anxiety attack. Definitely something I will consider if we have anymore babies.
I was assigned a doula through flourish care but she barely responds and when I reach out it takes at least a day to get a short response so I’m not confident in her actually being there for my birth in June I haven’t met her in person and only have had one short conversation on the phone with her months ago That’s just my personal experience and not what I’d assume is typical
I haven’t given birth yet, but I do have a doula. I was able to find mine since she was just starting out and only wanting experience. So it was cost effective for my situation. I rlly like the thought of having extra support, especially since they are there to support you and your choices while you’re vulnerable or unable to advocate for yourself compared to some doctors who care more about the baby. They also help your partner with the whole process and find ways for them to support you.
i’m not in this group it just popped up in my page, but i definitely recommend a doula! mine helped me so so much during labor, and she helped my partner be able to help me which was great. the physical and emotional support was amazing, good doulas are angels. i would meet or talk with a few so you make sure you find the right fit
See if your insurance covers doulas if you have insurance
We have a doula and I love her! Would be clueless without her. I also love the extra support and fact that I make a plan with her and she makes sure the doctors and nurses stick to it :) she’s made me feel much more prepared for the experience
