I had gestational diabetes, it’s not as scary as they make it out to be , don’t beat yourself about it hun you have no control over it. It’s scary at 1st but honestly it’s not the end of the world. Try your best to stay on a healthy balanced sugar free diet for the rest of the pregnancy. My lil boy was born @ 37 weeks , healthy n well. I promise you n baby will be fine chin up xxx
i’m 34 weeks and have gestational diabetes, i didn’t have GD with my first and ate so much shit, this time round i actually ate healthier and still ended up with GD (concerns were bcos baby is looking large in scans) anywho, i explained this to them who reassured me it is nothing i have done, they said they don’t actually know why some woman get it and some woman don’t, all they know is it’s because of the placenta and what the placenta produces (or lack of). we all grow our own placenta, so i just tell myself its luck if the draw as to which placenta you end up growing 🤣 please don’t stress or worry or cry. i struggled at first, but you quickly get used to what you have to do xxx
I promise it's not your fault! You couldn't have done anything differently to prevent it! X
I’m nearly 27 weeks pregnant and have diabetes out of pregnancy I was on a injection called mounjaro and lost 4 stone and went into remission with my diabetes but because I got pregnant so soon I was put onto insulin and now have metformin tablets , it’s not always about what you eat it’s also about your hormones so you can eat a very healthy balanced diet and still get GD it doesn’t mean you have done anything wrong
It’s caused by the placenta, and a lot of the genes that control the placenta come from dad! I had this in my first pregnancy, it was honestly okay, it helped me eat more healthily, which is never a bad thing. I don’t have it currently during this pregnancy (the whole pregnancy seems so different!) but maybe I will develop it as the weeks go on.
@Lorna that's only half thr picture. Every woman's placenta creates these anti insulin hormones, but in a woman with GD her body cannot compensate. Which is why ppl will be on a type 2 diabetes screening watch for up to 5 years. There's some underlying issue going on. Whether it be inflammation, some sort of allergy causing the inflammation. Alot of ppl do not even know they're insulin resistant until the layer symptoms come in like stubborn weight gain, skin tags to name a few. So saying it's caused by placenta is only half truth. I talked to my endocrinologist about it because it was all over social media when I was pregnant
Ur not hurting your baby. Ur baby can produce its own insulin and is fine. The most important thing is that you stablize your blood sugars, so the baby isn't putting on too much extra fat. They'll likely send you to a diabetic educator but in my experience they suck and may be better to work with a dietician. They will guide you better on how to eat
You aren't going to haem your baby because you have diabetes lovely. It's actually quite common. As someone has said just try and lower your sugar intake. The midwifes, hospital etc will take great care of you and answer any questions you may have! 🙂
You’re not going to harm your baby and it’s not from anything you’ve done! It just happens! Just be really careful with sugar intake from now til you see your diabetes team and you’ll be fine! You are not a bad parent, the fact you feel so guilty shows how much of a good mum you are already x
