I am using one this pregnancy, I went with an independent rather than private as the private midwives are still under nhs confines
All I’ll say is meet with them, and if you have even the TINIEST gut feeling they’re not right then do not use them. They will be with you at your most vulnerable time and not bound by NHS rules/regs. Basically we were traumatised by an independent midwife in the PP phase with our first (she wasn’t at the birth), I should have trusted my gut and cancelled her before she was born.
I’ve booked a Doula. Cheaper and provide all the support but they can’t provide Medical advice.
I have considered it as I would like a home birth but currently there isn’t a team set up in my area. It’s a lot of money from what I have found but would love to do it if the home birth team isn’t back and running by June. Waiting for my 28 weeks midwife appointment to see what the situation is and will make a call. I like the idea of getting some postpartum care at home too
