Consultant led at Royal Derby

Hi everyone, I have been under midwife led care for the majority of my pregnancy but was moved to consultant led care at 32 weeks due to the monitoring of pre-eclampsia. I just wondered if anyone knows whether I should expect to see the same consultant every time or if it’ll just be whoever is available? I didn’t have the best experience with this particular consultant so just wondering what to expect. It wasn’t the worst experience either so doesn’t feel enough to complain or ask to move, but for example she had to ask me why I had been referred to her, then her personal phone kept ringing on loud (she joked about it and didn’t answer it but it was quite distracting), she seemed a bit scatty and unorganised so I didn’t feel like I got a dedicated and personalised conversation like I get with my midwife. Any advice would be appreciated please.

I have been consultant led throughout my pregnancy at RDH and have seen a consultant and 2 different registrars. One of which we weren’t happy with. Midwife told us we can ask to see our consultant at next scan which was reassuring. I’m 35 + 3. You have a right to ask to see a different consultant if you are not happy with them. You can either speak to your midwife or there is the ‘maternity and neonatal voices partnership’ you can contact.

@Ashleigh thank you that’s so helpful!

When I was consultant led in 2024 I always seen a different 1 at derby Royal x

Antenatally I saw 2 diff registrars and 1 consultant, I had a scan at fetal medicine too and that was with a consultant who ended up being the one who did my emergency c section and she was brilliant!

I’ve been consultant led in both my pregnancies (not at Royal Derby though) and don’t think I’ve seen the same one twice 😂 think it’s pretty common everywhere to just get whoever’s available on the day (shit for continuity of care but great if you’ve had a poor experience with one) x

I saw the same one but not sure if it's normal but I had a unique issue so needed consistency I'd also get ready for long waits between scans and appts with consultant (unless they've changed it ) as we waited 3 hours sometimes to see her!!!
