How did you reveal the gender?

Hubby and I have a gender scan booked this weekend, we will be roughly 17 weeks at the scan and are so worried about revealing the gender before confirmation at our NHS 20 week scan. Have heard so many stories of people being told different at each scan 🙈 Guess I have 2 questions… 1. Did you want for confirmation of 20 week scan before revealing the gender? 2. How did you reveal the gender to your family and friends? - we are looking for a intimate reveal & our gender scan includes room lights for us at the time of we want it.

I didn’t wait because it was obvious my baby is a boy 😂 if he was a girl I might have waited but can’t say for sure. We revealed the gender in cupcakes to friends and family in our house. We did reveal it to ourselves in the scan room with lights and that was really special to us x

I think it depends on whether your private reveals girl or boy. My sister's youngest was thought of as a girl and was revealed to be a boy at 20week scan. That's the most common way round of things. We had private gender done last week but waiting to 20 weeks scan to reveal just to be sure 🥰 but it's personal choice. There's no right or wrong at all x

With my first we had the scan at 17 weeks and told people. The gender scans spend a lot of time looking we got lots of potty shot photos. So them being wrong is highly unlikely. The nhs scan as a quick check so I can see how that could be wrong. We just told everyone with our first as we were so excited. I also did to a free Canva reel and sent to people via WhatsApp for those we didn’t see in person. But this time the plan is to keep it between us (we will see if we do) my work colleagues and I discussed baking a cake with the colour (I like to bake) but that’s if we do reveal. We get the lights in the room too which I am looking forward to. We didn’t get that the first time.

@Kirsty I’m with you, if it’s a boy it’s pretty obvious 🤣 but girls can be so much harder to confirm. How many weeks were you when you found out? Oh I love that! We’ve got a bit of a broken family situation so having everyone round for a reveal at the same time isn’t an option … it’s more likely going to be a weekend of seeing them all and revealing it to them. Did you film/take photos of the reveal for yourselves in the room? I love the lights idea I just want something to look back on as well x

@Charlie I think this is the thing, girls are so easy to get wrong & so far our hunch is that it’s going to be a girl 😅 but then at the 20 week scan there is no guarantee they will even check the gender as it’s not what the scan is for (midwife hinted to us last week if we want to know gender not to rely on 20 week scan) X

@Danielle Being the first grandchild/greatgrandchild etc our family are so eager to know to knit/buy things for us as I would like a baby shower 😅 we’ve always known we wanted to find out because we’d love to plan ahead with babies room etc. Love that idea is a Canva reel!! Such a good way to reveal to those family/friends a little further afield. I’d just love to have a photo/video of some sort to look back on for the moment me and hubby find out as we don’t want the big gender reveal with a balloon etc x

I was having problems in pregnancy so I was scanned every 2 weeks the whole way through. At around 17/18 weeks the sonographer asked if I wanted to know the gender.. I was surprised as it wasn’t the 20 week appt but of course said yes and it was a boy. Nobody in my family knows I have a child so there was no gender reveal for me lol

@Katie we were bang on 15 weeks when we found out! Yeah I get that, we were gonna go round each person individually because we have a difficult family situation but then it was causing me stress trying to figure it all out so invited people round and thought ‘if they don’t come then I don’t care’ I did care but ya know 😂 Yeah we filmed the lights and then I put a song over the top of it x

I had a private scan at 17 weeks. They did two forms of confirmation. We got offered a light show or they could just tell us or if we wanted it in an envelope we could do that too. We went for the just being told. I'm glad I found out. I bought the video of that scan which I love rewatching (I nearly bought the recording of her heart beat in a bear too) At my 20 week scan I told them I'd found out it was a girl in a private scan and all they did was look between the legs and said yup can't see anything that would suggest different

Mine was a girl and it was right. I saw an obgyn clarify in a reel as she got it wrong once and you have to make sure the legs are apart. If the legs are close together it can hide boy parts and look like a girl. If they’re far apart you should be able to tell accurately. It was quite obvious ours was a girl and they checked a few times.

I had a gender scan at 16 weeks which confirmed a girl. I told a few people as it slipped out a few times haha (but not a lot of people). Anxiety levels hitting the roof as this is the gender I hoped for. 20 weeks scan is this Saturday, so fingers crossed x

@Katie that's understandable 😊 I think it'll depend on baby's position but they do always try to say. If you want to be like 99.9% sure go for a blood gender test 🤞🏻 my sister did this with her twins really early on and it was accurate. Ultimately there's always going to be a percentage of inaccurate results with each method, but it's very very small 😊 if we aren't told at anomaly then we will stand by the gender scan we had done and announce either way c

We're planning to find out the gender in a private scan after our 20-week NHS scan as the hospital we're with has a policy against revealing the gender. For our reveal to family, I'm planning to bake some brownies or cookies with either plain M&Ms or peanut M&Ms inside to give to our family members - basically, 'nuts or no nuts' 🙈😂 I appreciate it's a bit cheeky and not very conventional, but some of my partners family members would definitely cause a small fuss about colours being associated with gender 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 Our families don't live near each other, so some will have to be posted, and the others will be done in stages rather than getting everyone together.

@Kirsty we’ve not seen baby on the screen since the 12 week scan where I was actually only 11 weeks 3 days so having the scan at 16 week 4 days I image will be such a huge difference!! I thought I saw a flash of something in the 12 week scan but it could have just been the cord … 🤣 I like your thinking and I would do the same regards inviting people and if they come they come but unfortunately hubby knows he’d end up with no one there so individual announcements it is! Did you film you actual reactions of the lights or just the lights? x

@Helen aww sounds like it was pretty straight forward for your reveal then! Shall definitely be buying a video of this scan 🥰 such a shame the heartbeat can’t be heard on the video!!

@Danielle I’m sure as the private scan we are having is specifically for gender they will do all they can to get it right, think there is a re-scan option for any awkward babies too!

@Olivia Awwh it’s sooo hard keeping secrets when you are so excited!! Fingers crossed for you that baby is still showing as a girl on Saturday 🥰 x

@Katie the music that was playing in the room is playing within the video which is quiet nice. It would have been nice to have her heart beat within the video, but I guess it would make the recording they did quiet pointless.

@Charlie like you say it’s always a gamble either way. I honestly think I saw a flash of something in a previous scan, I guess we will know once we’ve had the scan on Saturday as most of the time it’s very obvious just got to hope baby cooperates 🤣 x

@Stacey absolutely love this idea 🤣 Hubby just wants to tell people as we see them but I like the idea of doing something with close family and having something to photograph and look back on for us. It’s so difficult as I also really don’t want family rushing out to go and buy blue/pink stuff as without being horrible not all family have the same taste 😅 I feel like it’s always so hard when you have to do the revealing to the family bit as all family is different!!

@Helen oh I had no idea they put music to the video!!

@Katie Oh I know I'm going to get some really horrible pink or blue clothes once we reveal, but my mum said that she wasn't buying anything more until she finds out 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 Bracing myself to smile and put baby in gifted clothing when we go out to see the people who bought it for them 😂😂

@Stacey 🤣🤣 my husband has already received some “I love daddy” gifts for baby which I find really cringe!! Especially when there was no I love mummy bits to counteract it! They have been slid into a dark spot if the house I may forget about! Luckily my mum is very similar to me it’s just other family I’m worried about 🤣

@Katie we only filmed the lights, I’m no good with reactions anyway so didn’t want anyone to record it 😂

@Katie it sounds harsh but I told people not to buy any clothes unless I approved first coz I didn’t want to get bombsrded with blue clothes or loads of dinosaur stuff 😂

@Kirsty I’m the same I hate being on camera but would also love something to look back on 🤣

@Kirsty how did people take that? 🤣 I’m not a lover of blue/pink I’d just like something with a bit of colour or character on it so may have to lay the ground there too.

@Katie my mum was highly offended (we don’t get on anyway) 😂😂 but my nan said she wouldn’t buy anything without me there anyway so.. my mother in law was fine with it too but she hasn’t done much for us or bought much or is even involved.. we’ve bought a lot of either character stuff or green coz I’m sick of blue😂

@Kirsty haha can’t please everyone eh! In laws sound same as mine! I love green, really want an olive green nursery so anything green is good for me 🤣
