Show your support

I told mine as soon as I found out. Mainly for FMLA paperwork, etc. and I am a therapist, so we needed to make a plan for my clients while I was out. Close coworkers I waited a few weeks and then others I waited till I was showing. I think it depends on your job. Sometimes your handbook will tell you about when you should let your employer know when you will be out.

I told my manager pretty soon after I found out I was pregnant, I think she was in the first 5 people I told. I wanted to make sure someone at work knew what is going on so I had a support system there seeing as I am a good hour away from my family support while I am at work. It’s a big deal to tell anyone this kind of news. So do it when you’re ready. I would try to give them enough time so they can get coverage for your work load while you’re on mat leave.

I told mine around 12 weeks, wanted to make sure I had all of my fmla paperwork ready in time and approved.

My office manager I told right away- I work in vet med so I wanted someone to know since there are several safety considerations. I told the rest of the office closer to 12 weeks after my first ultrasound!

I just told my immediate manager, one of the business owners, this week, I’m 22 weeks. I was nervous but she was great. The other 2 business owners are men and I don’t know how I’ll tell them yet. I haven’t yet told HR, but that will be an email, probably this weekend.

I told mine as soon as I found out because I was slated to take a test a couple months later and wanted to wait until later in the pregnancy to take it so I had to tell them why I was rescheduling.

I work with EC students who have behavioral issues so I told them as soon as possible because I needed to have the support in case a student attacked me or at least so they know I couldn’t be involved as heavily as before if an attack towards a teacher occurred
