Contact napping

My 12 week old sleeps in his bassinet at night with no issues, but during the day we can't get him to nap in there. He falls asleep on me, we put him in the bassinet and maximum 10 minutes later he wakes up. Any advice to help him nap in the bassinet?

Hey! So it’s biologically normal for babies to contact nap and for them to nap much longer this way too! If you are wanting to move away from this I’d start by spending a bit of time adding some associations like patting their bum, stroking their back so once you do start to move away from contact naps you’ve got a way of helping settle your little one away from you! Once this is established try it with the first nap of the day as generally it’s the easiest to get them down for :) You could also try warming the sleep space, make sure he’s in a deep sleep (usually after 10-20mins), ensure mouth is closed, transfer him on his side and roll him onto his back when he’s settled, use the sleep association from earlier. Also keep calm! You need your body language relaxed :) Feel free to give me a message if you’ve got any questions!

This is totally normal! They much prefer to contact nap. Once they are able to self soothe they will be much easier to put down! I’m just enjoying the cuddles x

Totally normal and it's just a stage, enjoy those nap trapped cuddles or you could try a sling if you still need to do things

Had no luck getting the bassinets naps to be longer so I gave up and did contact naps until 6-7m. She’s 14m now and still occasionally wants me to hold her for a nap

Enjoy it while you can, the chores and everything else can wait. Believe people when they say it goes too quickly. Some days I want nothing more than my little one to have a good snuggly contact nap but she doesn’t want them anymore

My daughter contact napped up until about 4 months. I just savoured this time to just sit and be with her as they're only small for a little while . Now she's 9.5mo and occasionally still contact naps (when ill etc) but more often than not, she sleeps by herself x
