Gestational diabetes birth plan

Any march mamas with Gestational Diabetes? I’m 36 weeks and the past 3 weeks I’ve been on metformin 3 times a day which has been good at controlling my sugar. Last consultant appointment the plan was to induce at 39 weeks if my sugar remains controlled on metformin and possibly earlier if not. Anyone who has had the discussion with their consultant is the 39 weeks standard everywhere in the UK? I’m not bothered about the induction I’d even be glad if it’s earlier😂 I just want to know what it’s like in other places. I’m in Stoke-on-Trent by the way.

I'm GD but on insulin, and I'm waiting for the call for my induction between 38-39 weeks. (I'm due 11th March). They have always said it would be 38 weeks but they seem happy with baby's progress as is so pushing it more towards 39 week I think. I'm in Nottingham 😊

@Phillipa awww my EDD is 15th March but I’m glad baby will be here before then and I’m really counting down. Wishing you all the best

I’ve GD using insulin and planned c-section so this is for week 39 for me

Same, have GD and on metformin and I have been given date for c section on 39 weeks

@Kathryn oh great then, if you don’t mind me asking are you opting for a planned c section or is there a medical reason

@Rija good to know then. if you don’t mind me asking are you opting for a planned c section or is there a medical reason

Have GD and I take two types of insulin and 4 pills of metformin a day. My GD is very agressive. With my baby girl 15 months ago Doctor said I wouldn’t go past 38 weeks and I tried induction that failed then needed C section. This time around the same doctor said she won’t do induction or c section before 39weeks and she says it’s because new studies show the need of babies that are born before 39 week to go to intensive care with breathing difficulty. So she said that the rules at the hospital changed and they won’t do it before 39 unless I have another issue going on. I was hoping to have baby at 38 because I am already miserable but I’ve tried asking many many times and she said NOO! So it is what it is.

I chose to have one due to family history of all my three sisters not being able to give birth naturally and the one natural birth caused my sister to tear so severely she couldn’t feel herself pee for a year as it damaged all of her nerves. The other four in the family were c sections so I opted c section so I didn’t have to go through the stress my sisters did xx

@Kathryn oh wow. That must be traumatic🥲 what you sister had to go through with the tears. I’d definitely opt for a C section if I was In your shoes. Wishing you the best

@Denise oh thats really a lot of meds, sending lots of hugs, it will be over soon. Honestly I can hardly wait, ready for baby to come😂

I have GD, mine is diet controlled and I’m being induced at 39 weeks x

@Karen oh good to know. Guessing the 39 weeks is quite the routine in the UK

I have previous history of shoulder dystocia and this time due to GD baby is measuring large that’s why going to c section

@Rija oh I understand. Wishing you the best ❤️🫂
