You’re not alone! We’ve been going through the same thing. We’ve noticed it’s worse when he’s tired or hungry but sensory activities help us a lot. Things like heavy work and playing with rice or beans. We’ve done “1-2-3 magic” and have started using the counting method for the incessant talking or noise making during dinner. It’s slowly starting to get better for us. We’ve been stopping him if he interrupts us during a conversation or starts making obnoxious noises and let him know that we’re talking and when we’re done he can say what he needs to say. When we finish up our conversation we turn to him and ask him what it was that he wanted to say. We did the same thing, early ABCs and communication and our little guy is well spoken too. We always want him to ask “why” and communicate with us so it’s been a pretty tricky line to walk. This is a tough one for sure! We used to lean into the tablet a lot and went cold turkey over the summer and it has made a BIG difference!
In the same boat! My son is well spoken as well, and can form full sentences. He's smart. I think that's why they talk so much, it's because they're SO curious right now! I've always been a person that wants my quiet time in the morning, and I avoid all conversations buuuut...my little guy just wants to talk and ask questions about EVERYTHING "What're you doin Mama?" " Are you making coffee?" "Are you coughing?" "Can I have cereal?" "Is playgroup today?" I'll respond to him and he'll ask the same question and I'm just like 🫨 soooo many questions, and he doesn't stop talking. I really think it's their brain firing off and learning and they're super curious about everything. I get it though...I get to the point where I give short answers "Yes." "No."
@Sabrina Thank you so much for relating and sharing 🙏 I'm not too familiar with heavy work.. Do you just give him dried rice and beans to play with? Also, what's 123 Magic? Sorry for so many questions! Just trying to find something besides screen time. It's like non stop talking lol. I've always told myself I don't want him to be a guy that bottles stuff in. I'd rather have him be a guy that talks too much. Lol! Well, so far I definitely got my prayers answered 😆
@Sierra Thank you so much for relating! I totally know how you feel! I'm NOT at an AM person but I get up super early to start WFH so I can get as much done while he's sleeping. Sometimes he wakes early and follows me and sits next to me while I'm working and talks and talks lol. I feel SO awful for getting irritated but sometimes I feel like I can't help it. I rarely snap at him but there's some days where I do 😞 It's like there never any silence... like ever lol
Don’t be sorry for so many questions! I know exactly what you’re going through and it’s so challenging. I also WFH with him and I’m not a morning person either so I GET IT! My little guy thrives on little sleep and I’m the opposite so that’s challenging for us too. 1-2-3 magic by Thomas Phelan is a “discipline” book. Overall the concept is great, there are some things that I don’t agree with what the author is saying but using the counting method has helped for us a lot. We have one of those sensory tables so i dump the dried rice and beans in there and let him play with them. You can also just use a shoe box to contain it. He has some trucks that stay with his sensory fillings and you can add things like empty grated Parmesan cheese jars for him to school the filling with. It CAN be messy so I like to supervise it, but I’m also okay with mess, I know that there are a lot of people that have a hard time with the mess that the sensory activities can make and that’s okay!
@Sierra the “are you coughing” had me laughing so hard because this is exactly what my little guy does too! Sometimes all I can do is just stare at him and wonder if I’m actually hearing him correctly 😂 So many questions one right after the other that my brain literally can not process it to answer him back!
I should mention that he is quite when he's on his tablet or my phone but I end up leaning on those too often just to be able to hear myself think. And I want to get away from so much screen time.. Suggestions 🙏
