Elective c-section

I am due to see a consultant on Tuesday regarding an elective c-section, however, I have been told by a friend that she's been told she can only have one after 40 weeks because they have a back log. I suffer quite badly with my mental health, I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder which is triggered by uncertainty, and the thought of a vaginal delivery panics me so much. Does anybody know if I would be classed as a priority due to my mental health? I have had three different therapists and everything is on my medical record.

It may differ trust to trust but without sounding horrible I don’t think you would be a priority. Priority would go to anyone whose baby was either not thriving or at risk by remaining in. Mental health is absolutely important and they’d probably put a plan in place for if you went into labour before your scheduled date but I don’t think you’d be necessarily be scheduled earlier. Obviously if you did go into labour before your date you could still have a C Section, it just wouldn’t be your planned date but it wouldn’t be classed as an emergency c section either. You’d just have to let the team know as soon as labour began so they could get you onto the schedule. I could be totally wrong and hopefully you’ll be advised better on Tuesday but I know it’s hard not to spiral about the unknown x

Are you under a perinatal mental health team? If so then your specialist midwife would probably be able to support you with this

I had an elective C section with my last pregnancy and am having another one this time round, and it is not for medical reasons or mental health either. I have had no problems both times. They tend to schedule your section at 39 weeks. I did have my meeting with a consultant quite some time ago now, so I'm not sure if that has any baring on wait time. But they gave me a date within a few days of meeting the consultant.

Am in Scotland , just had my second consultation regarding a c section he advised me that the rate of elective c sections have risen but resources have not so the planners are finding it hard to schedule people in advance . I was told it will most likely be nearer 40 weeks and possibly only a few days notice . Really sorry to say but don’t think you would be priority due to you mental health however if you do go early you can still get a c section just need to inform hospital as soon as u think labours started x
