Advice

Hey girls, I’ve booked my appointment for my smear and I’m really nervous I don’t know what to expect. The last time I was on the bed at the doctor’s like this was when I had my stretch and sweep which caused heavy bleeding and needing to be induced almost immediately. I’m not sure if this is kind of a trauma response as when I stood up from that there was just..blood all over the floor.. Any advice from girls that have had one since having a baby I would appreciate it ❤️

I found my smear a lot easier after having my baby because my cervix wasn’t completely “fresh” if that makes sense 😂 it’s really easy and obviously slightly uncomfortable but is over with so quickly! It’s not like a stretch and sweep as you aren’t heavily pregnant and it’s only a qtip swab they are putting around the cervix not a finger or more! You’ve got this! Well done for going, it’s so important 💪🏼💕

I had one a couple of weeks ago and it was way easier compared to before baby. You've got this, it's not going to be as bad as induction - I went through 4 sweeps and induction rods and smear test is now a breeze by comparison!

I had a smear before pregnancy and I’ve had one since. My birth was really traumatic for several reasons and I put off my smear afterwards because I couldn’t face anyone being near me like that. Once I felt more ok I booked it and had it. It was a little uncomfortable which is the nature of smears and my anxiety tightened me up a bit but overall it was absolutely nothing like I was worrying it would be and nothing like anything when you’re pregnant/birthing. It’s hard to process the trauma but having a smear is so important so I would try to trust that process and talk to the doctor about it at the time. I explained before hand about the birth and how anxious I was feeling and the person was so lovely about it.

Hey I ended up having nearly weekly smears for like 2 months and I was only 23 due to post complications. They feel uncomfortable but if you breathe through them they're fine, it does depends if the person does it slowly or quite harsh. If you managed birth you can do this!
