Breast pump

Has anyone used a breast pump at 37 weeks to collect colostrum? Or are you just hand expressing? I have the mom cosy pumps so wondering weather I can use them now….

You can try but it can be more successful hand expressing as it can be REALLY sticky and low quantities making it easy to get lost in the pump xx

They say not to but I did in my first pregnancy and it was fine. I couldn’t get the hang of hand expressing at all and it really annoyed me🤣 I recommend buying a Hakka and using that a couple of times a day until you start producing a good amount of colostrum then moving onto the mom cozy so you don’t get sore xx

My midwife said not to use a breast pump before the baby is born. It can cause overstimulation which can lead to mastitis.

Yes I have used a breast pump - the mom cozy. I’m not sure why we can’t use it? As I only used it for a short time & it works for helping collect colostrum x

I used the haaka before to collect some. It worked well!

The first couple of times I hand expressed I got nothing but then went for a bath and did it straight after and got good results, googled a video to see technique.
