Crying confusion

So I need some advice. I fed my little guy around 40 mins ago. He’s 4 weeks old and nearly took 120 mls which is what he’s been taking for a couple of days now. I then felt him poo whilst I was cuddling him and he started to look at little uncomfortable so I changed him. He then got quite fussy afterwards and started rooting around and crying as if he was hungry. So I decided to try and soothe him for a bit to see if he would drop off back to sleep and also to see if he was actually hungry. It took around 5 mins but then he settled back down and went back to sleep. I feel like he uses the bottle as a comfort thing, and sometimes I’ll make up a bottle straight away and he might take a little and then he goes back to sleep. Does anyone else struggle with this? I feel like I waste so much formula and Im struggling to read his cues I think also.

@Chanelle McManus🧡💜 I do normally just feed him. Especially at night, Becuase at the moment he wakes around 3 times from midnight onwards. It’s just so tiring but I get he’s still super young so he’s just finding his feet. I was thinking of introducing a dummy but it’s not something I really want to do either.

@Chanelle McManus🧡💜 thank you for putting my mind at rest. I assumed it was just a comfort thing for him. And yeah that’s the main reason I haven’t wanted to use a dummy as I heard it can be hell trying to wean it off of them 😂 x

Could you up his bottle by 30ml, maybe for one or two bottles, and see if it helps?Even if he doesn’t take a tonne more and only wants an additional 10ml day, it’ll save you wasting a whole new bottle! It could be an opportunity to introduce something like a comforter too, if you don’t want to do down the dummy route x

I would up the bottle, and then it's good for up to 1 HR afterwards, so if he does stop feeding, needs changing and then fuses for feed after you have some already made up and not making a full bottle. It is completely normal though at this age
