Sleeping positions

I’m sleeping on my left side as advised but getting terrible shoulder ache and hip ache from the pressure of staying in one position too long. Any other safe sleeping positions that anyone knows of? Any tips? Thanks

Same. Sometimes I go on my right just for a few minutes

I was told it was safe to sleep on the right side and that people have been scared into thinking left only, which is only based on one small study. Some studies suggest right or left are equally safe.

You can definitely sleep both sides! But I think left is historically known as better due to a sleep study in Auckland, but since then, the same circumstances haven't been proven. Both left and right are fine, but avoid on your front or back. That being said it does say if you find yourself on your back, just simply roll back onto your side, dont stress. I tend to sleep left side to begin with but I do swap to my right during night particular if I get sore or achey. If you stayed on left whole pregnancy you'd probably end up worse off as you'd be struggling with hip pain etc and lack of sleep? Definitely just alternate sides xx

You can sleep on either side. It’s just ‘better’ for blood flow to sleep on your left, but in reality doesn’t make that much difference.

@Louise I really didn’t think you could sleep on both sides, thanks for telling me! My shoulder is sighing in relief 😂 x

@Christina I’m so glad to know right is ok! Yes you’re right it does wake me up and I can tell it’ll only get worse. Thanks for replying xx

@Sarah thanks glad to know if x

@Kirsty so glad to know it and that you’ve had the experience sleeping on both with perfectly healthy babies x

You can sleep on either side, and can sleep on your back if your propped up with pillows so your not flat x

I place a pillow (or two) at my back at nighttime so I can roll more onto my back than on my side when I need a change of position. It’s only being fully flat on your back or tummy that you need to avoid.
