Pregnancy and emetophobia

Did anyone have morning sickness and emetophobia? How did you overcome it? Or how did you prevent being sick?

I wouldn’t say I have emetophobia but feeling/being sick is something I’ve struggled with most of my life. I was always worried about it prior to both pregnancies but fortunately *touch wood* I’ve not been sick, just felt very sick which I have managed to cope with. I got antisickness tablets from the doctors as a backup which I had to use on several occasions. My fear is more sickness bugs than things like morning sickness though, I can’t really explain it x

I do not struggle emetophobia, but I did suffer with extreme morning sickness. I lost a significant amount of weight in my first trimester because of it. My OB prescribed 50mg B6 & 25mg unisom and it almost completely took away all nausea/vomiting.

Being pregnant forced me to kinda deal with it more than I ever had before. For me knowing why the sickness is happening is the part that helps quell my anxiety the most. Acceptance is kinda the only way through it from my experience. I was prescribed a med called “bonjesta” which helped me out immensely with dealing with morning sickness & general nausea

Never had emetophobia but I do hate vomiting. Ginger really helps curb nausea. I used to sip on ginger ale all day long. There are also ginger candies for pregnancy that I ate on and off all day.

I have several emetophobia and have 2 children. First pregnancy I had terrible nausea for the first trimester which then got better but I still struggled with being in the car, certain smells and foods etc. I also had all kinds of antiemetics during my labour as I was scared of it happening (some pain relief and the injection to deliver the placenta can cause sickness). Second pregnancy was so hard, the nausea never went away so I went on antisickness medication which helped but not completely and my anxiety and phobia became so much worse. Both pregnancies I received support from the perinatal mental health team and NHS talking therapies which helped me get through it. The Pregnancy Sickness Support charity was really helpful and I received peer support from someone who had had HG and emetophobia. Happy to chat more if you’d like to message me x

Huge emetaphobe, it’s soo different than sickness with a bug because you can slightly avoid it. Whereas a virus has to come out. Fresh air or a fan during the night helped me massively x
