I sterilise the bottles & Nuby but not dummy or toys etc x
Still sterilising bottles and dummy’s but wondered the same even though guidance is 12 months x
Bottles have to be sterilised as the formula isn't sterile - these have to be done until the baby is off formula....i don't sterilise anything else though
It’s not to do with dirt on the floor - you have to sterilise formula bottles until you stop using it due to the bacteria in it
We will be stopping soon. LB is formula fed, however the UK is the only country in Europe where they say to sterilise for as long as you're using formula. Spoke to pediatricians (outside the UK) and all agreed to stopping at 6 months. The reasoning was that the bacteria in the formula gets killed by the hot water you add, nothing to do with the vessel. The only way the bacteria could stick to the bottle is if the bottle is not washed properly. Please, don't shoot the messenger, I'm just telling you what I was told. We decided to listen to those pediatricians, as they were able to answer our questions, while no one in the UK (GP/HV) was able to give us an answer as to why this seems to only be an issue in the UK and why they have different guidelines here compared to the rest of Europe.
Still going til 12 months, habit now! I do dummies still as she throws them on the floor in the night so they're there for ages!
We sterilise bottles and dummies , clean her toys twice a week if not more depending on where they are taken. We make her formula with cool water as per instructions so we sterilise the bottles as we don’t use the hotshot method x
I still do all bottles and teething toys x
Not dummies. Think we stopped after a couple of months with dummies. They put everything in their mouth anyway The bottles are to do the bacteria in the formula. We will still sterilise until 12 months but we’re just not as strict on it now. I throw them all into a bowl of water with a sterilising tablet
We still do as we just pop them in the UV dryer and steriliser anyway so no fuss
You’re sterilising for the formula. So as long as you’re using formula (ie 12 months) then you should sterilise bottles
I still do dummies and bottles everyday and teething toys a couple times a week
i have stopped, i never sterilised her bowls or spoons when weaning at 6 months and stopped sterilising bottles about 6 and a half months as we went on a trip and i forgot the steriliser. didn’t sterilise for 4 days so when i got back i thought is there any point as she was absolutely fine for them 4 days xx
We're meant to until they're 12 months. However, there's the odd time I'm out & don't have a steriliser, so have had to just use a bottle, unsterilised (my mum's steriliser broke when we were staying with her)
