Comfort milk?

Anyone’s baby with feeding problems tried the comfort milk and had any luck? We were prescribed gaviscon and omeprazole initially. This didn’t work. We changed to Hipp organic but he’s still having problems! What milks have you tried that have worked well? Thanks!

What problems have you had? Have you considered cmpa? One of my twins has recently been changed into a prescribed formula as he had an overwhelming number of symptoms which were progressively getting worse and eventually led to him projectile vomitting his feeds. We started on cow and gate and had only mild symptoms that we brushed off as oh he’s got a cold, oh he’s got a tooth coming etc but when we changed to hipp things intensified (don’t know if it was because he was taking more or if they have a higher dairy content) Since he’s been on the prescription formula he’s like a different baby! I found a really good site that assesses symptoms and produces a report for you to take with you to your gp https://www.cowsmilkallergy.co.uk/could-my-baby-have-cma/cma-companion.html

@Ceri-Ann thank you!! I hadn’t considered it until recently as his symptoms are getting worse and he’s now taking less milk. We basically had all the reflux symptoms however the vomiting has calmed down a lot now. Rather than it being projectile instead he’ll vomit clear liquid with bits in a couple of hours after feeding. He gets really bloated and gassy. He’ll throw his head back off the bottle and go stiff. He does a poo once every couple of days and afterwards seems settled for a good few hours until the symptoms start again and then get progressively worse until he does a poo again. We hadn’t considered CMPA due to having no rash or anything but now I’m starting to think that maybe that’s what’s happening! 😬

My LO had no rash he had lovely skin, his symptoms were reflux and colic like, we went back to the doctors on numerous occasions as he would never settle was always straining and grunting. In the end he ended up pooping mucus and blood and got poorly and that’s when they gave us the CMPA prescription formula (Neocate) and within 24 hours he was a changed baby. So happy, chilled and content! He still has reflux so we use a thickener called Carabel which stops him from projecting his vomit he just does the odd spit up. Neocate is very thin so they do normally give carabel with it, but it also can make them constipated so we was using lactulose until recently as we have introduced foods which has really made an improvement with his bowel movement. I hope you get the support! Hope this helps too💙

@Heidi that’s really helpful thank you! I’ll speak to them about this when I have my next appointment! I’m calling them tomorrow as we were under referral but because things improved once I took him off his meds they removed us from the referral. Only for his symptoms to come back worse than before 3 days later! 😩😩

Aw bless! That’s never nice especially when things seem to be getting better. I hope all gets better! X

@Heidi thank you! Just another question, what were his poos like before you started to see the mucus/blood? My little boys poos look absolutely fine! They’re a bit greeny coloured but I think that’s normal. I just think without the rash or bad poo they don’t consider the CMPA 😩

@Milly my gp tried to kick back and say it’s probably not cmpa because he didn’t have a rash but 30% of babies with cmpa don’t have a skin reaction. Others it comes later! She very quickly wrote me a prescription after that when I pointed out we were already in a 4% minority of him being a twin so being in the minority of no skin symptoms isn’t beyond the realms of possibility

@Milly he was BF so his poo was a bright yellow korma kinda look, but his nappies always had poo in like all his trumps we’re wet, he’d be straining for ages and do a little push and there would be a line and then other times he’d absolutely fill it. I was told it was normal for a BF baby to always poo however, when it then turned to mucus and blood they back tracked and said it wasn’t normal. My LO are now green as he’s on Neocate and that’s just what it does, but green poo unless on milk that it’s a normal reaction to is sometimes a sign somethings not agreeing I know a lady who had very similar symptoms with her LO green poo no skin reaction but in the end they put it down to CMPA, it’s a process of illumination, I tried colic treatments none worked, tried reflux treatments none worked, tried baby massage classes, never made a difference. Changed his milk, got a completely different baby, it took 6 weeks of seeing the GP as they’d always send me of with something else to try
