What amount?

So I have a almost two month old (he’ll be two months on the 12th of this month) baby and he has been struggling to gain more weight and I feel like a terrible mother for that but I’m trying. I was feeding 2 oz in the beginning after he was born, then bumped up to 4, then bumped back down to 3 because he kept spitting up a lot. Then bumped back up to 4 oz. Now we just fill the whole bottle up and see how much he drinks which was the other day he had drunk 7 1/2 oz. I think that’s too much for him but I don’t know. How much should I feed him? It’s like when I was feeding him those previous oz’s he’d act like he’d want more. I need help and I don’t know what appropriate amount to feed him I’m struggling. At this point I just feed him the 7 1/2 oz’s but like I said I don’t know if that’s too much or not.

Im formula feeding btw

every baby eats differently! My formula fed 2 months old only takes between 3-4.5 oz each feed! Some babes are just hungrier than others! But i would definitely consult your pediatrician if you think his weight is an issue.

My pediatrician said to feed him till he's doesnt want any more (we had weight gain issues at the beginning too) he is now 1.5 months old and drinking 3-4 oz comfortably but sometimes he wants more. We start with 3 then give him more if he wants it (pumping breastmilk so I hate seeing it wasted)

Formula fed babies will eat more. Breast fed/breast milk babies end up being a little more constant with the amount. Our first was mostly formula fed. What we did when we wanted a large amount was to start burping every ounce after like halfway just to slow it down a little. You could also try pace feeding if you don't already. That will help them get the formula a little bit slower. Can also help with spitting up if you still have that. (My first had low weight gain issues and spit up/vomit after feedings. Turns out he needed a sensitive formula. If you are still having these issues, you might look at different formulas in case that's the issue)

Maybe he’s going through a growth spur! My little one tends to eat more when she’s growing :)

Also I’m sure you already do this but have him sit up 15-20 mins. Longer if he’s still spitting up a lot :) there’s also slower paced nipples you can buy to help him not take in too much milk at once.

My son is about the same age as your son and my son took 10 oz at one time which is way to much, so what I did is giv him a 6 oz bottle, once he drinks a once I try to wait about 15 20 second before the next once he’s spit up has reduced almost completely, an once he’s done that 6 oz I see how hungry he is, I will normally make another 2 oz cause he’ll want a snack a hour later but he’s almost 13 pounds an not even two months yet, this routine makes him sleepy which makes for a happy baby later after that nappy, but I would also consult his doctor before, just incase never be to carful ❤️

My baby takes about 4,5-5oz each feeding. He is two months already
