Take your pain meds about 10-15 mins before going in. For some reason, for me I was always in pain my first shower post c section. Had 2 c sections. And both times first shower I was in pain. I couldn’t stand up straight I was having burning sensations. Take your pain meds. Have someone help you reach things, so just have someone with you in the bathroom at least. My husband helped me shampoo my hair since I couldn’t stand up straight.

Oh and go slow

Have you got the dressing still on? It shouldn’t let any water in so don’t worry about that :) It makes you feel so much better to have a shower and feel fresh! Just go really slowly and just let the water run down you and the suds from the shower gel :) Don’t over do it and get help if you need it xx

@Beth i haven’t got the dressing on it any more as they took it off, they said it healing really well im just nervous. im going to get my partner to help me wash my hair as i dont know if i can do it by myself xx

When you wash the incision area make sure you let it dry completely before putting any clothes on. I used a sanitary towel and just held it against the site to soak up the moisture and don't use soap on it just water whilst it's still healing x

Did the hospital give instructions on how to clean your incision? Different providers recommend different things. Mine told me to wash my incision with hibiclense daily, pat dry. Honestly, I loved the shower, it was the first time nothing hurt and I felt more human again after my c section.

@MK the hospital just told me to wash it with water and pat dry (make sure it’s completely dry before putting any clothes on ) but that was it xx

Honestly it’s not bad! Make sure your partner is there to help you in and out. Take it slow, let the water flow over your scar, you don’t need to proper wash it, and pat it dry! A shower really helped me and I just got straight back into comfy clothes ☺️

Pain meds slightly before you get in there (maybe half hr) and just take it slowly and enjoy ☺️. I was advised not to directly wash the incision area but wash the rest of your body and just let the soapy water run down your body over the incision. When you get out, give it a pat dry and then just stand either naked or in underwear that doesn't cover the wound and allow it to air dry. Enjoy your first shower and try not to overthink it, it's a well deserved bit of relaxation 💕

Only soapy water on it and rinse off when out make sure you pat it dry don't leave any moisture on it

You can get it wet but don't let soap in it if dressing is off If dressing is on don't saturate it xx

I was nervous about my incision so had my husband help me the first few days until I got used to it. Honestly you’ll be fine, just take it really steady and don’t use soap on your wound, just water. I just soaped up everywhere else and let it run off me avoiding the wound where possible. Pat dry gently. Some people use the hairdryer on cold to dry it, but I didn’t find it necessary. 😊

@Naomi I did this too! Worked a treat!

I actually found the first shower absolutely fine (to my surprise) and I felt amazing after it. I did take it slow and avoid any movement that triggered any kind of discomfort. It felt a bit weird being on my feet again as I hadn’t walked in nearly 24 hours. Of course everyone is different and have help nearby incase you need it

Don’t be nervous, it’s an amazing shower after surgery. Works wonders and makes you feel human again. Just wash as normal but don’t scrub or soap up the wound. Suds running over it in the shower are fine. Pat it dry and that’s it.

No soap directly on your scar. Wash just above it and let the soap run off clean it. If you’re paranoid about infection I highly recommend Dove’s antibacterial body wash. Take your pain meds like a half hr before so they really have time to kick in. Make sure your incision is dry before putting clothes etc back on. Air dry is best but it’s always freezing so I usually use a clean body rag and just blot it.

Keep it cool shower and ventilation I wasn't in pain but nearly passed out because of the heat go slow too and get help to help wash you and stepping in and out

Make sure you have someone there to help you! Don’t put any shower gel or anything near your incision and just take it easy x

If you have access to one, use a shower chair n get someone to assist you if have help!! Just let the water n soap slide down your scar but don’t scrub! I used the medical grade soap they provide n aveeno to wash up with!
