Baby always routing

Anyone else baby always routing ? She can just be fed and is full but will still route for food. Open her mouth wide turning from side to side ? What could this be? She does not have a dummy! Never has. Any ideas ? She’s 8 days old.

We share same baby birthdays 😊 is it a specific time of day? We have entered cluster feeding stage in evenings / nighttime’s which I know is very common. Could be that?

@Leonie she always does it, mainly nighttime though, what is cluster feeding my 2 boys didn’t do it 🫣 xx

My baby is 12 days old and does that aswell and mostly night time. Sometimes he will take more milk in , sometimes he will just spit up but still routing for more. As a 1st time mom I get stressed out :(

Yup sounds like cluster feeding, where they want to feed incredibly often in a short space of time. Very common especially overnight! It’s absolutely exhausting and one of the reasons I couldn’t manage to persevere with breastfeeding personally. It doesn’t last forever but it’s hard because they nurse for comfort as well as just for the nutrition so it’s not always overly productive but very hard work for you x

@Jules thank you for explaining this to me, same breastfeeding has been extremely painful/stressful for this reason, I never knew what it was, will it pass eventually? Never had it with my sons xx

@Jules does this reduce then if they are fed only from bottles? We are combi feeding at the moment so breast and then a top up of formula (feeding plan from hospital due to not outing weight on) but I would like to transition to bottles or at least more bottles x

Always!!! He will be happily asleep with Dad and shoot up rooting the moment I walk in, like he can smell me from a distance 😂

Literally writing this as my 3 day old has been feeding almost constantly since 6pm. Nice to know it’s a thing, and also one that seems it will pass!!

I am on the same boat. Constant feeding for the second night in a row (day 3) since 8pm 🫠

@bella I think they generally say cluster feeding happens in the first 3-4 months of the baby’s life, and can also happen if they’re experiencing a growth spurt for example so it doesn’t sound like it’s a forever thing, but of course each baby is different so it’s very hard to predict!

@Kati I only experienced my baby cluster feeding when it was directly from the breast, but it’s hard to say whether it could also happen with bottle fed babies. I think generally they don’t get quite the the same comfort from bottle feeding so I would imagine it’s less likely they’d cluster feed but I couldn’t be too sure!

@Jules think my cluster feeding has fully started tonight…he literally will not settle but can’t latch properly so it’s never ending bless him 😭
