Is this CMPA?

Hi all, new here and hoping for advice! My 4 month old breastfed baby has had diarrhea for 4 weeks now (very runny poo, about 8 times a day, often green…) before he has a poo, he screams the house down because he is in so much pain. The crying stops once it’s passed. I have been to the doctors multiple times, they have done sample tests and found nothing in the poo. They have therefore come to the conclusion that it must be CMPA and have instructed me to cut out diary, which I have been doing for 10 days now. what is the likelihood of CMPA in a breastfed baby to suddenly start at 12 weeks old (no symptoms before then.)? furthermore, whats the likelihood of the only symptom being a painful tummy and diarrhea? i cant help but find it quite lazy of the GP to diagnose this without doing further tests… i did request a referral to a pediatrician but the doctor said she didnt have time to do it and that i would need to go to A&E for that…. As its not an emergency i wont be following that advise! anyone able to share their thoughts? thank you! (UK based.)

To me it sounds just how my son was. He was combi fed up till 12 weeks old, when he had dairy free formula for CMPA. The amount of times.i had to take him to CEAU to be checked over, cause of his pain, screaming the house down, his green poo, him being sick after every bottle. It only stopped once he was on the dairy free formula only and no breastmilk. As I was finding it hard to stop.all dairy in my diet. Happy for you to text me and I cam explain what the CEAU did xx

It could still be CMPA. There’s such a thing as build up reaction, which babies build up would depend on your intake. Gas and diarrhea are really big signs of CMPA too. Unfortunately there is no way to get a definitive answer on a CMPA there’s no such thing as a prick test etc it’s through cutting out and seeing if baby improves. I have read a few people on this page say that their gp never diagnoseda CMPA and that the hospital did so it may be best to take baby for a second opinion.

I was sceptical when I was told my baby had CMPA too and had the same symptoms as your LO (also breastfed). I cut out dairy and after 6 weeks saw massive changes. I then trialed dairy again and within the week baby has diarrhea and milk aversion again so it was confirmed that it’s CMPA

Mine colic symptoms then it was probably around 12 weeks that she started coming out with really bad excema. Cut out dairy and no problems since.

CMPA can be diagnosed at any point as babies can develop the allergy/intolerance at any point in their life. Someone I know their baby was fine with dairy until 9 months old and they developed it. There is no further testing that can be done for CMPA until you start the milk ladder depending on the severity of the symptoms and how baby is or are told to reintroduce dairy after 6-8 weeks to confirm the diagnosis. Paediatricians won’t do anything unless baby is really badly. We didn’t get diagnosed with CMPA until she was 5.5 months old after being to the doctors multiple times to be told it’s reflux. Ended up in A&E and children’s ward where the paediatricians listened to me and gave me hypoallergenic milk and because she’s got other allergies we are waiting for a allergy test to be done to confirm the CMPA and other allergies before we can start the milk ladder. As for the symptoms she had every single symptom under the sun. And you don’t see a difference until about 6-8 weeks

As that’s how long it takes for the cows milk protein to leave their digestive system. You can see a slight difference within the first 2 weeks but not a full one until 6-8 weeks x
