Do you wind a breastfeed baby?

I was told not to wind my breastfeed baby in the hospital, but she always has hiccups and squirms around like she has wind… would you wind the baby until they burp?

Absolutely wind the baby! They always need winding. Whoever told you that is a bit silly

Breastfed babies swallow less air if the latch is good but still need burping

I asked my midwife this question today and she said that you technically don't need to wind a breast fed baby but there is also no harm in doing it. Mine often has hiccups or is prone to vomiting. I've tried to wind him but not noticed any difference. He will sometimes burp on his own accord though.

Yes! I don’t understand how people can say BF babies don’t need burping, I guess it depends on the baby but my son had a good latch and he still struggled a lot with trapped wind and hiccups for the first few months of his life. If he wasn’t burped he’d throw up and if he was put to bed without being burped he’d wake up crying and squeaking.

I just burp for a few min. At a young age it was usually til they burped but like my second she didn’t burp very much so I on tried for a few min

We got told that when our boy was born, didn’t listen because regardless of how you feed the baby they will get wind and need burping

We were toldnot too, but he would cry with wind, he always burps after feeds

Some do need it some don’t. Give a few pats and if nothing comes up they don’t need to burp. I think the issue comes when people get obsessed with winding for half hour trying to get wind up that isn’t there x

It depends on the baby. I didn't with my first. But with my second if I put her down without winding she would scream in discomfort.

A midwife told me they didn’t and it was such a lie! I think its because wirh bottle they need more winding during feeds but idk as I have never bottle fed! Wind until burp or spit up xx

If baby needs winding then yes but it comes from the fact that a lot of breastfed babies don’t need winding bc they swallow less air when breastfeeding than they do with a bottle

I was also told not to do it when I had my first baby 2 years ago - I have had 2 babies now, both breastfed and I have found they both need winding! Not as much as when they went onto bottles, but I found it kept them more comfortable. Don't know why they say not to 🙈

Babies don’t need winding 🙄 its a myth it makes it harder for babies to bring up gas as all you do is break up all the air bubbles

Yes

I’ve always winded my little boy and even still now at 4 months I still wind him x

Sometimes he doesn't need winding, sometimes he does. I can tell because of the grunty cries and squirming
