Teething trenches

We’re deep into teething trenches, no sign of tooth but gum is major swollen and it looks like surely it’ll pop up soon. The last two nights, he’s refused his bottle before bed, screaming inconsolably and we ended up given Nurofen before bed the last two nights and it’s really helped him. We didn’t give any last night as don’t want to keep giving it but he’s been in pain all night, crying and crying. He’s had 2 bottles which he never does. What else can i do? I can’t keep giving him Nurofen before bed. I’ve tried the teetha granules, not sure they’re doing much. The Ashton and parsons teething gel. I can’t use the anbesol liquid until he’s 5 months corrected as he was preterm and it’s so frustrating because I know it’ll work! Any advice welcome 🙏

Sorry this sounds so stressful for you and your little one 😔 If you’re concerned about using nurofen too much, could you try switching it up for calpol sometimes? Although once a night for two nights, while teething/ he is inconsolable doesn’t sound too excessive from what I’ve read about other people’s experiences - but maybe check with your HV too? Here’s a thread I’ve been reading https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/childrens_health/4635960-overuse-of-baby-nurofen

Thanks Laura. Seems conflicting on the comments in the thread. Calpol doesn’t do anything so seems wasteful giving him pain relief for nothing. Nurofen deffo helps but I don’t even like taking painkillers myself unless absolutely necessary so we’ve only done it those two nights. Only 1 dose and that’s that. I just wish other non medicinal things would help as he’s barley feeling, crying and screaming and having a really rough time of it 🥴 x

So sorry you’re going through this, hopefully he will be over the worst of it soon. But if nurofen is the only thing that seems to take his pain away, as long as you’re following the guidelines of how often to use it, then you shouldn’t feel bad about it xx
