Mine is on solids three times a day, and still breastfeeds on demand. She has milk around 4 hourly and still night feeds once or twice a night.
You haven’t caused an issue, milk is still their main source of nutrition until 1 and IBCLCs don’t recommend night weaning until 18 months. I’m still feeding my baby on demand and she’s been a bit slow at weaning too. She’s had a really strong gag reflex (lots of reflux for the first 6/7 months too) and only the last few weeks I would say she’s starting to swallow more. She has several feeds overnight so I tend to give breakfast an hour or so after waking up, feed to sleep for naps and try to give meals at least an hour after a feed, probably 8-10 feeds in 24 hours roughly. It’s really normal for breastfed babies to prefer boob to food, just keep offering food to him and eat with him to demonstrate how to eat properly. He’ll get the hang of it soon I’m sure!
Still feeding on demand. And up at night 🤪 Hit or miss with meals. She’s tries a lot of food but not consistently eating a meal. I’m not worried as it will change soon enough as going back to work etc
Thank you everyone! Sounds silly’s but I think I was just abit in shock from the health visitor as I’ve always been told to keep feeding on demand recently and as he had gone from the 50th to between 25th - 9th percentile a health visitor the week before told me to keep doing night feeds to make sure he doesn’t lose weight and then this one said to stop 🙈😂 I think in my gut I know he’ll get the feeding it’s just taken time to get to grips with swallowing but this appointment really made me second guess everything! X
My son currently has three meals and breast milk on demand still. He feeds every 2 hourish at night, mainly for comfort but in the day I tend to do a 7/8 am feed, 11/12 feed, 3/4 then 7pm ish bed time feed. He was under the hospital as dropped percentile before weaning due to tongue tie referal being slow, so I'm in the habit of he cries he gets a boob incase he's hungry!
