Preschool registration doubt

The registration says child must be toilet trained. Currently she says ‘Potty’ and manages without her diaper but she doesnt know how to wipe it yet. She is 2 years and 8 months old. So when the registration says “toilet trained” do they mean the kid should know how to wipe as well? Sorry if this is a stupid question :p

Child had to be 4 to start school. Or turns 4 before end of December.

Hey @Melissa this is for preschool. She turns 3 in August and eligible for preschool in September. I got a call from them. And the form they sent over says the child should be toilet trained.

I don't think they could expect that at 3yrs old. And even if they do, no doubt they would help to teach her within the first couple of weeks :)

How strict they are with that likely depends on the school (I've talked to different preschools and the amount they'll help differs). You should ask them directly about that

@Nandini I am so tired I didn't even read it properly, my bad lol 😅

Yes, wipe themselves. The point is that they are not responsible for their toilet activities. My daughter trained at 25 months started Montessori when she was 29 months and was wiping on her own. She was still learning to wipe when she pooped but she was also not pooping in school and only in the morning at home so it wasn’t a problem. Now she’s almost 3 and can do it all herself. Just practice and show her how to wipe. They are super capable once they get the chance. Our teachers would offer verbal assistance but will not physically help do anything unless it was an emergency. Reach out to the school and clarify and also explain where your daughter is at and what are there expectations.

@Amelia thanks! And wow 😯 ill start ryt away!

@Melissa haha no worries! Despite being tired u took time to reply and that reflects the empathy amd compassion in u! Thanks mama :)

@Nandini I think non-Montessori schools will likely offer more help...? But defs worth teaching if you think they're ready

There is no expectation to be able to wipe on their own. Not all kids develop at the same rate so expecting everyone to be wiping on their own before 3 yrs is too restrictive and you should consider whether that’s a good school for your child. Usually at that age potty trained means they aren’t peeing and pooping themselves in their diapers and have some form of control on their bodily movements. However, I think the preschool also offers support if the parents are working with the kids on this. And accidents are a normal part of development.

My guess is they want them to be out of diapers and using the toilet even if some help is needed. Some kids pick it up quick if you’re consistent so I’d just encourage her to wipe when she’s done and show her how to do it properly etc.

So I just had a meeting at my kid's nursery yesterday and they want all the kids to be potty trained. They don't have an area to change diapers. That includes wiping themselves yes. They also said if any of them have done #2 in their pants, we will be getting a call to pick them up.

Oh no @Sheri now Im having second thoughts on whether I should wait it out. She does have accidents every now and then but to teach to wipe it off? Ugh!

Toilet trained means they can undress and redress themselves, wipe and clean up themselves, etc.
