@Mehtap he is fully daytime potty trained, pee & poop. And yes, he turns 5 on Wednesday, but he wasn’t comfortable with using the potty until February.
When I took off my son's diaper, I didn't put it on at night, I took it off completely, I was taking him to the toilet before going to sleep, and I was waking him up once at night.
My almost 5 year old does well on road trips. I just plan on stopping every 1.5-2 hours for potty breaks
My son was not talking, I was having a hard time and I went to a psychologist. He said that I should complete toilet training before the age of 5. He may have problems when he starts school. There will be leaks anyway. I think it is better for him to take it out completely instead of just during the day
@Mehtap I plan to nighttime train when we move because we will be in a one story house & all the potty training things will be in the hallway bathroom that will be theirs & he will be in his own room & I don’t have to worry about waking little sister up in the middle of the night for him to use the bathroom.
@Mehtap nighttime potty training is very different than daytime. It is much more hormonal and development. It is also linked to genetics and bed wetting runs in families. Glad it all worked out for your kid. But some kids take a lot longer at night.
@Mariah the puppy pad hack is actually not recommended by CPSTs because it can add too much bulk between the child and the harness straps making them less effective in the event of a crash. However, if the child is no longer in a harnessed seat, it would be fine I believe.
I would do pull ups and have a portable potty in the trunk for super emergencies. Make sure to put either a trash bag or diaper in the portable potty for easy clean up. My daughter (4) likes to hold it in and not tell me until she it becomes an emergency. I usually take the closest exit and park where ever is safe. Have fun on the road trip! If you have a child anything like mine, make sure to plan lots of stops. 😆
Of course, everyone is different. They told me that I shouldn't wear diapers at night so that he can forget about them altogether. There are diaper-like panties that you can try if you want
I bought a special bottle for my son to pee outside and it works great. He never poops outside anyway
I plan on getting a training potty and taking out the bin part for road side emergencies.
We keep the water intake to a minimum during the trip but he has used a water bottle before to pee in 😂 (haven’t driven longer than 2.5 hrs)
My 4 year old will say when he needs to go, and if need be we just stop at the side of the road and he does a ‘nature wee’
My 5 year old has no issues holding it on road trips. But he was potty trained years ago, so I'm not sure if this is comparing apples to apples
Isn't 5 years old a bit late? Pee training is easy, but poop training is harder.
