Open adoption uk

Has anyone done the open adoption process inthe uk ? I’m wondering how it works, on a personal level instead of just using google. Are you able to see your child, can the parents decide to not want it to be an open adoption, how often can you see your child Is it hard to give up, did you feel like changing your mind ?

Never done it but know someone who did. Socials were involved they tried to do an open adoption but adopted parents soon after 6 months decided it’s best birth mum isn’t involved and that’s their right as they’ve now got PR it’s a very hard decision to make

@N💋 wow how are they just able to change their minds!

Sometimes children get confused and obvs it’s their right to stop it as they’ve now the legal parents as you gave that right up. Unfortunately it happens alot it’s a long journey you also have a social worker there to help out

You should try have a look at special guardianship orders! As far as I know you hand the child to a legal guardian but still retain parental responsibility and have a say in major decisions about their life

@Lu special guardian orders are only placed if the person is found unfit by the court but still have 49% of pr and the other person 50%

@N💋 i wasn’t sure as I have some family members that done it and was their own choice but wasn’t in the uk so is probably different in my home country 😊
