Go with your gut!!
I know she is getting iron because we have been on this formula since 2 weeks after birth. She gets iron daily and her reserves shouldn’t be low like a breastfed baby. I can understand the veggie comment but I’m not down with the rice cereal even oatmeal I didn’t want to be first. For me I always hate my bf’s comments because he is like are you the doctor. Do you know more??
I think that cereal recommendation is based on what people did like back in the 80s and 90s. Our pediatrician mentioned it but didn’t say we had to start with it. Also for what it’s worth with my first we gave her pear first and she never had any problems with eating veggies afterwards. Peas and tomatoes are her favorite foods still!
I started at 4 months with my first on homemade purées of only frozen or fresh veggies. I waited to introduce fruits with veggies after she likes the veggies. I did a little bit of baby led weaning starting at 6 months. I’m also anti baby cereal and the store bought purées (depending on brand). With my how 4 month old- strictly breastfed until closer to 6 months but will do the same as my first food wise. My 2 year old is an amaaaaazing eater and is happy with plain foods which I do believe starting with veggies helped. I don’t have to make her her own special dinner now. She eats what we eat and I’m picky about her snacks.
@Beth I’m okay with exploring veggies first. But I’m not sure how to cross that bridge with the disagreement it’s going to cause with my boyfriend. I seem to get what I want and make all final decisions with our baby but I know he gets upset by it. And I agree with the 80-90s statement. I even questioned him and said well her formula is high in iron.
I have a two year toddler who’s a pretty good eater… he doesn’t love veggies but will always try them, and actually doesn’t really like chocolate or sweets (we do limit them to special occasions, but he also will only eat like half a cookie, and doesn’t like fruit snacks or most candy)… and honestly i was super anxious about feeding him at first, but I can tell you that toddlers will be picky no matter what and will change preferences every other day, so try not to stress out too much about veggies first or fruit, in my opinion. we did a mix of baby led weaning and purées, and did a little cereal but not much bc i didn’t like his processed it was and my son hated it. i think that introducing different textures is really important and just letting them explore food. hope that helps 🤷♀️
Pediatrician don't know anything about nutrition lol. I think baby cereal is trash. I think the foods you mentioned to start with are totally fine but also low expectations your baby will probably spit most of it out 😅 thin it down also with a little formula so it's not so thick and can be swallowed more easily. If you wanted to do oatmeal you can also get regular organic oats so they're not fortified and single ingredient and put them in a food processor or blender so it makes it much smoother once you cook it and similar to baby cereal consistency
