Hey I'm just wondering if or when to let my employer know I'm pregnant. I'm currently almost 6 weeks. I'm not sure if it's required or if it's more of a common curtesy.

Show your support

I’d say beginnng of second trimester

I'd say it depends on your work if there is any major risk factor etc

I think legally you have to tell your employer at least 15 weeks before your due date

Legally at 25 weeks. Ideally when you feel you may need extra support etc as once they know they have to put appropriate risk assessments etc in place and they have to let you go to antenatal appointments etc. I told my employer from 9 weeks but I do a physically demanding job and didn't want to put myself at risk. So as long as you've told them by 25 weeks it's completely up to you x

I told mine at 6 weeks because I have a demanding job and I’m under so much pressure

Depending on the company you would be shocked but when I was pregnant I was heavily discriminated against.

I told my boss right away this go around. I work from home and I’m on the phone all the time. They track how often we step away from our phones so I wanted her to have a heads up that between nausea and frequent bathroom breaks, I’d be stepping away more than I normally would. They’re working on setting up accommodations for me so it doesn’t affect my stats!

All depends on the job, i’m pretty sure legally it is at 25weeks and you will get MatB form from midwife, but if you have a job with any risks then it is more to protect yourself and baby that you would likely tell them earlier xx

Let them know quickly and professionally and in a positive light. When you tell them put it IN WRITING. Send an email something like "im happy to share that i am expecting a child in (due date) and am expecting to work until (maternity leave estemate). Make sure to cc your HR department in the email as well and if you need any accomadations make sure to adress that in the email as well. Never do so verbally or over the phone. Before you send the email ensure you know your federal and state laws. Also read your company maternity and parent policies head to toe. If you dont work with a company that has an HR department, get every last conversation relating to your child and pregnancy with any supervisor documented, even if its a follow up email sumarizing the conversation with the date and time, just keep it in writing. I dont say this to scare you, i just say it because these are all things i wish i had known before i got pregnant. Congratulations on your pregnancy and don't let them disturb your peace.

I’ll say when you start showing

No no no telling until you know it’s viable.

After I had my 12 week scan
