I would contact hr not the manager to do this
Just say you need it to renew your mortgage as you’re going with a different lender this time

We bought our current home whilst I was on Mat leave, and when it came to it, the lender needed direct contact with my employer for some paperwork to be completed, so just something to bear in mind that even if at this stage you can get away with avoiding your manager being aware of your intention, later in the process you may not have a choice.
