1. Look in local “buy nothing” groups. A lot of times people give away nice unused baby stuff. Afterall babies grow so fast 2. If u have some sort of med insurance, check out free resources Momwell Care. They provide a kit for “mom’s essentials” for free. Pretty nice stuff. 3. Your breast pump usually would be covered by the insurance. 4. Babylist registry - if u make a baby registry list on this platform and buy like $40 i think worth of stuff from ur list, they send you a very neat baby welcome box. Mine had bottles, pacifiers and even some clothing. 5. Ask around. Ur friends, neighbors, local community, network - they probably had/have kiddos and a lot of times the piles of baby stuff 6. Make a post on FB in ur local groups. That u are kindly accepting baby clothes/baby stuff as donations. People are kind, they will respond And the bright side is: there is not really much that the baby needs in the first year. So u ll have some time on ur hands.
@Travaughn I need a baby bath, 0-3 month baby clothes, diapers, Baby blankets, diaper rash cream, bottles, and pacifiers. I had a baby shower and only 5 people showed up so I didn’t really get much of anything and I’ve been trying to slowly purchase things but now I’m struggling without my income.
@Katia 1) I have been doing this and got the baby’s bassinet and a few other essentials and some baby clothes this way! 2) I just applied for this Momwell kit so hopefully I get approved. 3)I also just applied for one online as well and if it doesn’t work I will talk to my doctor about it. 4) I have a registry through Babylist so I will have to check that out! 5) I have definitely asked around and got quite a bit of stuff but it’s mostly bigger baby clothes that I have put up and saved for when baby is that size! Just don’t have a lot of smaller sizes. 6) I’ve been making posts for weeks and gotten a few small things and some diapers that people had laying around! I’ve been exhausting all options i can.❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for this good advice though!
Sorry to hear you're going through this. Remember you're already doing a good job advocating and finding resources for you and baby. Most important is that you too are well. I'm not sure what state you're in but check out social service agencies in your area. Sometimes they have programs for low income families that give out diapers, clothes, etc.
@Chan We are in California and are a family of 5 but me and my husband together make too much to qualify for any type of government assistance like food stamps or anything, we do get WIC and that helps so much. We are technically not considered low income but still struggling financially to make ends meet every month. And now preparing for him to take leave because I will be having a scheduled C-section and will need all the help I can get from him. It’s been so hard and with Christmas and our oldest son’s birthday coming up quickly, I just get depressed and discouraged. Thankfully I found someone who is adopting our family for Christmas so at least we will have a good Christmas for the kids❤️ I’ve really been trying to exhaust every possible opportunity I can.❤️
You're doing a great job mama
Hang in there! Better times will come 🙏
Definitely understand girl im in the same boat. I didnt get to have a baby shower this time around. An everyone that said they were gonna get something off my registry didn’t so that really put me behind on top of losing a whole income. But we got this girl. God will make away
I definitely agree with using buy nothing groups. Also, a few of those things can wait, hopefully your EDD check comes through before you’ll need some of that stuff. Baby bath- they don’t need to be bathed for awhile and you can do sponge baths, depending on size of baby 0-3 months will be a few more weeks away, you can use a regular blanket, just wash it without scented detergent, keep baby clean and dry and you most likely won’t need diaper cream for awhile. It’s annoying, but 1-2 bottles will do, and just wash them right after use. Babies need diapers, something to eat, and love… don’t stress yourself out about everything being perfect. Good luck ❤️
@Krissie as of 36 weeks and 3 days we were looking at an almost 8 pound baby she is definitely bigger than my first was so I’m just praying we have enough to get her through the first few weeks with diapers, wipes and I’ll be breastfeeding so that’s definitely a plus. I just get so worried about everything and overthink things when money gets tighter than normal. I’m just trying to figure out now how to get us some toilet paper and laundry soap and some diapers for my older daughter and I think my mind will be at ease.
I’m so sorry you’re going through that and the mental stress you’re under. Sending best vibes your way for everything to go smoothly and your situation to turn around 🙏 And for a happy healthy new family member 🥰
What all do you still need?
