Waiting times with the NHS

Today I finally got the call for my first fertility appointment with the NHS which will be in January. I’m just curious, once you’re in the system, what have everyone’s experiences been with wait times for follow up appointments and treatment? For reference, the hospital is St Barts.

Hi sorry I can’t give an answer as I am a bit behind you. I was referred by my GP 25th October, when were you referred?

I had to wait 9 months for my appointments x

I was referred last October and had my first appt in jan (bloods, scan etc). My husband then had his appt in March (nothing we were concerned about with him but they will want to rule out male factor whereas we knew I had PCOS). We then got our consultant appt in October this year, so pretty much a year from being referred to being seen and given our results/options. What I will say is once you’re seen, you can start your treatment right away so there’s no waiting after that.. also I reckon we could have potentially been seen earlier (aug/sept maybe) but we didn’t really chase the appointment, so I’d recommend chasing them once you’ve been waiting 6 months+ since your initial tests. I also think it depends on your age etc. from what I’ve heard they will see people who are slightly older more quickly and almost fast track them so I guess it really depends on your areas waiting times and your personal circumstances. Good luck! :)
