Permission to take child on holiday?
Hello everyone. Wondering if anybody has any experience with this and can help….
Husband and I are separated with 50/50 shared custody - this is not court ordered or anything just a mutual agreement, but we are not on the best of terms.
I’m wanting to take our child abroad for a week in summer. I will of course speak to him about this before booking but I’m just wanting to know, do I need his permission to take her on holiday?
I don’t know if it makes any difference but my child and I have different surnames on our passports.
If you’re in the U.K. anything under something like 28 days is fine. No need to have ‘permission’. Make sure you communicate your dates and show him proof of return flights booked and he can’t really do anything. Take a copy of your child’s birth certificate with you just in case. If he doesn’t have rights (isn’t on the birth certificate) then you can do whatever you like. But he could apply for an emergency hearing through the courts to demand instant rights. Not common but controlling ex partners use this to ruin holidays. My child’s sperm donor has no rights and I’ve been on many holidays for over 28 days and never even been asked about the father. Or to see his birth certificate. Xxx
