Funded childcare

I’m just a bit confused when it comes to the funded childcare hours form the government. I’m due to have my baby June this year and was planning on returning to work April 2026. Would I be entitled to the funded hours April 2026 or would I have to wait till September 2026?

I’m not 100% sure and always best to check out the gov website but I’m sure it’s the term after you return to work so would be September. Hope that helps x

You would be if baby is 9 months old before the 1 April I think! You’ll need to speak with your nursery and get it all booked though! It’s not actually worked out at 30 hours for us as we don’t want baby in every day and at ours it’s split between the 5 days so we’ve had to top up. Some nurseries also spread it across the entire year rather than term time only. Ours doesn’t do that so when it’s the holidays you’re paying full price, it’s a minefield!! X

If baby is 9 months old before the beginning of the term in April then yes you’ll be eligible from then

My understanding is you’re entitled to it the term after your baby turns 9 months. My baby is 10 months and I am not getting my free hours until next term (April). So assuming birth date. You should be able to get it for April. Your nursery will tell what the deal is also.

If you put your child’s age etc into this government website it’ll tell you what you’re eligible for and from when: https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=Childcare_Choices_24_25&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvLO9i6yMiwMVhppQBh3X1SO2EAAYASAAEgKTyPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
