Yes, please check with your doctor and maybe check if you can take ural and paracetamol. I recently had a uti (not pregnant, though) and got s 5 day course of antibiotics and some ural, and with pre - and pro biotics and vitamin c, it cleared up really well. If you can't get an in person appointment, maybe ask telehealth or gp access they have always been helpful for us.
I once left a UTI and it got so bad I ended up in hospital, so I would definitely recommend seeing your GP to get it checked out
I had a UTI 3 months pregnant, waited for about 4 days before I decided to go get it checked out and I decided to take antibiotics because I was told by my family doctor that the chances of miscarriage is very high with a UTI if left unchecked and it gets worse. Personally I took the antibiotics because they ended up finding blood in my urine even though my symptoms were not extremely severe, didn't want to risk loosing baby. It was a 5 day course of antibiotics but everyone is different. I would highly advise to get it checked out by your doctor and test your urine. Best of luck ❤️
I should mention that the midwife sent me the script to get the antibiotics but said "if you think its a uti then you should start taking it". I did a pee sample which will take around 3 days and they won't notify me when they have the result so I would need to follow it up. Ideally I'd like to wait till the pee sample comes back but worried it'll be too late by then.
@Jess was your bub okay when you took the antibiotics? And do you remember the brand you took? Thanks xx
I understand your concerns, but if you have an untreated UTI you could get very sick and it’s not worth having potential and avoidable complications in pregnancy. The only good thing about waiting would be that if you do have a UTI, it will tell them which antibiotics the bacteria are most sensitive to. There are quite a few antibiotics specifically for UTI’s and that are safe during pregnancy. If you are unsure, you can also ask the pharmacist before they dispense the medication; they often have better advice than GP’s when it comes to medications. Depending on the bacteria, some UTI symptoms can be mild and some more severe. I would be watching for signs of fevers, chills, sweats, offensive smelling urine, burning on passing urine, frequency and cloudy urine or blood. There shouldn’t be any judgement, UTI’s are very common in pregnancy; especially with higher hormone levels. I had one early on in my pregnancy and had antibiotics and it was clear on my repeat urine test.
I'm currently on the last few days of antibiotics for UTI and am 17 weeks pregnant. If it is suspected ,and your midwife / GP has given you a script for it, then I'd would suggest you are best to take them so you can get it cleared up / treated quickly. I was like you, I thought I may have, then my antenatal doctor told me that I had one.. and didn't think twice about taking them. I don't usually like taking them either, but as I'm pregnant, it can actually be harder to treat more naturally , due to our immune system / body hormones being all over from growing a baby, and I'm certain sure they are safe for the baby. I normally take a good probiotic after finishing antibiotics to help restore the good bacteria in your gut and continue with your pre / in natal multivitamins 😊. Like others have also said ,leaving UTI untreated can be more harmful , and serious. I hope you're feeling better soon, lovely 💜
Hi love. Definitely get it checked out. I had a UTI at 16 weeks and it progressed far quicker in pregnancy than any UTI I’ve had outside of pregnancy. Thank goodness I was able to see my Gp and get some antibiotics within 24 hours, because I think if I had left it longer, I would have been very unwell. Watch out for some of the alarm symptoms mentioned by others and seek immediate medical attention if they do occur. UTIs are very common in pregnancy and can cause some serious issues to both you and baby if left untreated.
Always better to get checked out. Personally, I wouldn’t be taking antibiotics without being sure. If it’s getting worse it will burn more when you pee, you may notice a stronger smell to your urine and you might feel some discomfort/ pain in your stomach. If you do end up taking the antibiotics maybe take a probiotic with it. Hope you feel better soon!
