They do need to provide you itemized billing, yes. And yes, it is accurate that you are getting a separate bill for the doctors and a separate bill called the facility charges. That’s gonna happen anytime you go to the hospital or if you are admitted to the hospital. There are separate charges for the doctor and there are separate charges for the facility.
If you are also uninsured, talk to them about a cash option. That will help lower the total amount that you owe for the visit. Also check and see if the hospital has any low income program that you can apply for that might help lower the bill too.
If you are also uninsured, you may qualify based on income and other reasons for Medicaid for your state if you are in the US. Should you happen to be pregnant again, you can qualify for Medicaid being pregnant. If you do qualify for Medicaid now not being pregnant, sometimes it can be backdated and it might cover this visit. I don’t know if you went to an emergency room in the same state or if you’re in the US or not. If you are in a different state and we’re visiting a different state, then Medicaid may not work.
You typically have to fill out a medical records request form to get itemized billing. I’m not sure who you talk to. That says you can’t get a copy of the bills, but I would talk to the medical records department at the hospital. It may be that they can’t provide you a bill yet because not all of the charges Have been completed? It depends on how long ago your visit was. I hope this helps you and I’m sorry that you’re going through this.
@Nicole thank you!! This definitely helps!
Wow, the US is fucked up 😕. Thank god for the NHS, even if it is on its knees!
I know for the hospital here that I work at they charge a “physician”, “radiology” and “hospital” charge. Which is stupid but it’s how they get there money I guess.
So sorry for your loss. Sending you hugs
