Uk- sure start grant

Do you need to be claiming benefits to get the sure start grant? I know online it says you do but a girl I know says she got it and doesnt claim anything and has a full time job.

Once I’m on maternity pay, I’ll be able to claim universal credit and then get the sure start grant

You do have to claim, I put in for uc and then claimed my sure start grant

If your getting SMP on the UC claim it ask usual amount pay or something, do you put in there your wage you would get if u was working or do you put how much you are getting SMP? 😕 I have never claimed anything before and these forms are confusing 🤦‍♀️

I was told I wouldn’t be entitled to the sure start grant because I work full time, but I applied just for the sake of it and I got it 🤷🏻‍♀️ might be worth just applying

@Charlotte it won’t really matter as they get your incomings from HMRC monthly

@Charlotte I asked for this same advice from my employer, and they said For the Sure Start Maternity Grant, if your Universal Credit (UC) claim asks for your usual amount of pay, it typically means what you're actually receiving right now—so you’d put your Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) amount rather than your usual working wage. If it asks for your normal earnings before maternity leave, that’s when you’d put your wage before SMP. But for most UC-related forms, they usually want to know your current income. If you're unsure, you could double-check with UC through your journal or helpline just to be safe. You're not alone in finding it confusing—these forms aren’t the easiest! I'm the same as you. I've never claimed anything before now.

Just a question please, I’m not entitled to public funds , can I get any funds or grants to start a business, since I’m nursing a baby and need income
