Contraception

Hi! Im 7 weeks postpartum and wanting to go on contraception. Im currently breastfeeding and I know some of them can affect your milk supply. I’m leaning more towards the mini pill but wondering if anyone has any advice on it or experience with taking it whilst breastfeeding ☺️ or recommendations for other birth control? Any advice is appreciated x

You shouldn't take anything with estrogen in it because it can affect milk supply. The safest option is the mini pill or copper coil.

Hi, after my first baby I took the minipill for a year. I stopped breastfeeding after 12 months too and my period came back straight away. It worked well for me. This time I've opted for mirena coil (which is also progesterone only - v similar to minipill except as the hormone goes straight into the uterus it is more localised and therefore fewer side effects). Again its been a good option for me. My period has actually just come back at 7 months pp (still breastfeeding but big reduction due to baby eating more solids- which I'm guessing has triggered it). So I do recommend either of these options and neither have affected my milk supply x

I got pregnant a month after being on the mini pill. Fully breastfeeding was a better birth control then the mini pill. I'm currently 4 months pregnant

I have the implant in my arm. Never had it before. Working well for me x

@Suzie thank you! how did you find getting the coil fitted? I was considering it but I’ve heard such bad things and how painful fittings/ removals are and it’s put me off 😕

@Greta honestly for me it was absolutely fine. I felt a slight pinch in my cervix for a few seconds. I was told to expect cramping for a few days afterwards but even that was very mild. x

@Greta I've also had the copper IUD. I had lots of vaginal pain, pain during intercourse, super emotional. The insertion was WAAYY worse then the removal. The removal was like a pinch. I kept it for 2 months and got it taken out

@Vanny yeah honestly most people I’ve spoken to have said it’s so painful having it put in! I’m so bad with pain too so I don’t think it’s something that would work for me😅 Also I’ve heard it can fall out?!! scary stuff 😭

@Greta yes I had a friend who was having sex(gross my brother and his wife)😂🤦‍♀️ I dont really have friends just some family 😭 and he had to stop because he was bleeding and cut up. Shes a nurse so when she went to the RR, she said she could feel the bottom of it sticking out of her so she just pulled that baby out. Afterwards my brother got a vasectomy so she wouldn't have to worry about pregnancy care. They also have 8 kidsalready and were beyond done lol

@Greta thru a church friend, she was so scared for me to get it because two of her friends had it travel in their abdomen and ended up needing surgery because of where it traveled to. Another one had a baby born with it in her hands. Not trying to scare you just want you to know it can happen..it may be the best one for you. Only you will be able to answer that after getting it. I've also had the IUD in my arm. Insertion was about a pain scale of 4. The most that hurt was getting the shot to numb the arm..the healing was just being bruised on your arm for a couple of days. I did have a period for about 40 days straight after insertion, then it stopped never had a period again until 6 months after removal. I got it inserted at 15 took it out at 17 and 6 months and was pregnant 6 months after removal with my 1st. Personally if I had to decide on which birth control out of the vaginal and arm, I'd choose the arm
