Books you recommend?

Hi everyone! This is my first pregnancy and I'm 9 weeks along, so early stages. There's so much information out there and it's hard to know where to start. I'm looking for a book to learn about pregnancy and birthing - the basics really. Where did you start figuring everything out? Any recommendations for books, or websites etc, please send them my way! Thank you ❤️

Highly recommend What to Expect When You're Expecting by Heidi Murkoff. I think the latest one is the 6th edition. I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and read it in stages throughout my whole pregnancy. Been super helpful 🙂

The positive birth book, by milly hill 👌

A mix of books to really help you feel empowered during birth and understand what is gojng on. Also to understand everything happening in the early stages of baby

Thank you everyone. These are so helpful 😊

@Jenna agree to the modern midwife such a good book to teach you everything

Expecting better by Emily Oster!!! I’ve read them all and this is the most informative and data based on also everyday life. It’s an amazing read!

Literally came here to suggest Expecting Better.

@Carys second this one

Thank you everyone for your help ❤️

How to grow a baby and push it out was fun. I also read the above. Id recommend anything coming from a hypnobirthing standpoint just because they help you really understand your rights. The issue i found with what to expect when you're expecting is firstly its very American even though it's been adapted to the UK and NHS protocols but secondly, I found it was very much "yeah you have to accept all these things".

Thanks Carleigh, that's really good to know

This is totally my question!! I read sooo many books even years before pregnancy to prepare so am well read 😂 can’t believe nobody mentioned “real food for pregnancy” by Lily Nichols. For nutrition, there is NO better book out there. It’s the most evidence based and current. Massively recommend. For birth, my absolute must have and favourite is Ina May’s guide to childbirth. If I could only read 2 books, I would make it those! ❤️

The positive birth book is also really nice that someone mentioned above! The modern midwife’s book was ok but I personally found it quite basic. Of course, what to expect when you’re expecting is an absolute classic, love how detailed it is and definitely on my favourites list too.
