Christmas presents

I bought my step daughter a vanity for Christmas . I plan to get a couple of other things like beauty products or accessories for her vanity … plus a trip to Disneyland . My husbands reaction , “that’s it?” He always feels like kids should have tons of presents to open . He also buys her things and then she has presents from the rest of the family . Last year she had a living room full of presents just for her (not exaggerating) . I feel like his comment was rude . Vanity’s aren’t cheap . And a trip to Disneyland isn’t cheap . Secondly I feel like experiences and memories made is better then just cashing out on random things just for her to open and not ever even use

That’s nuts lol. He was being very rude. What does he want to instill for his daughter? This is exactly what I’m trying to raise my kids not to have- a living room full of gifts. It’s unrealistic and over the top to keep up with every year. A few gifts is plenty and more than other some children see in a year. I think your gifts were great and a Disney trip in itself is an amazing gift.

That’s very rude. My husband was once shocked I got my stepdaughter a present for our holiday in addition to clothes and he said. What? The clothes are the gift and I’m like no. Clothes are clothes. She deserves a gift. I’m sorry you’re going through this. It’s hard being in the stepmom role.

@bri🤍 he thinks waking up to the excitement of opening up a ton of presents is a kids dream so I know he means well but I was raised very different and I think spending so much on things that kids don’t need is wild to me . I hate the whole materialistic aspect of going overboard on everything

@Rema yea I’m not sure what to even say because he’s made the comment a couple of times

I would suggest a gift-free Christmas. Mostly as a negotiating tactic. That way he feels somewhere in the middle is a win/compromise. 🙄

That’s wild. The Disney trip alone is enough to be grateful for! Plus the vanity…. He’s crazy.

He can purchase whatever else he thinks she should have.
